Internet Safety and Beyond

Many teachers are learning how to explore the vast new world of the internet right along with their students.  Some are fluent in the technology and others are scratching their heads about how or whether to jump on board.  Internet safety has become a popular topic for parents across the country to discuss, but where do teachers fit in? This presentation goes beyond the common on-line predator scare and focuses the discussion on our media culture.  We will discuss how it impacts the use of internet technology, and how it effects students and us -- the good, the bad, and the ugly.  Teachers will leave with an understanding about how to open up the dialogue with their students and include a media literacy perspective in their classrooms.
