– Do You Speak the Language?

Beyond the well-accepted standards of reading and writing, children today are growing up being literate in what seems like a second language to older generations. With commercial saturation reaching new heights, some people are beginning to question if we have a right to commercial-free space. No matter how you feel, critical consumption of media is imperative to understand the consequences of living in a consumer-based culture. Discussion will focus on brain development as it relates to advertising, the power of media, deregulation, the impact of a culture featuring sex and violence, and what we can do about current trends.
