– Violence in Today’s Culture
Continuous, disrespectful behavior is normalized in our media culture. This provides fodder for the progression of violence, from verbal and physical abuse to killing, which is glorified throughout popular video games, television programming, music videos, and other media. Some parents may not be aware of the degree to which violence is presented as ordinary, some may be overwhelmed by the constant exposure, and some may have personal experience with violence. We will look at popular media examples, discuss the physical effects of violent exposure, and address what can be done.
