Medialit4U Presentations

Children – Ages 6-11

Media Detective

Using current media, we’ll pull out our magnifying glasses and trench coats to find the clues that we need to be successful media detectives. We’ll make learning basic media skills fun and effective through the use of stories and hands-on activities that allow students to practice what they’ve just been introduced to. Kids will leave this workshop understanding that media is powerful and knowing how to apply critical thinking skills to what they see every day.

Why Buy?

What kind of satisfaction comes from buying? How are kids learning to be good consumers? We will examine what methods are used to get kids to buy. Using basic deconstruction skills, participants will practice analyzing pop culture and messages of constant consumption. Discussion will focus on needs versus wants, and what really makes us happy.

What Are You Doing on the Internet?

Whether it's gaming, email, or exploring, kids are participating in many different venues on-line.  Unfortunately, very few of them are having discussions about how to behave in this new world.  This workshop will focus on how the brain is effected by gaming, what draws kids in, and the amount of time that is spent on-line.  Kids will learn how to deconstruct a web-site, looking for clues that tell them what's going on behind the cool graphics and animation.
