After a twenty-year career in communications and community activism, Alexis combined her public health background with her experience to focus on media literacy. “When I was first introduced to media literacy in 2002, I knew I wanted to get involved in this growing movement. With a commitment to public health, I felt an urgency to act on the many issues that tie in with media literacy.”
Alexis is an active member of TRUCE (Teachers Resisting Unhealthy Commercial Entertainment), and a supporter of Stop Porn Culture. She taught seventh grade media literacy at the Rivers School in Weston, MA for five years and wrote for the magazine, Cable in the Classroom. She is currently an adjunct instructor at Wheelock College. An experienced public speaker, Alexis has presented at the NAEYC national convention, Wheelock Media Literacy Institute, Groton School, Lawrence Academy, Harvard Public Schools, Nashoba Brooks School, Acton/Boxborough Community Education, and at Boxborough Sargent Memorial Library – to name a few.
Alexis has a graduate degree from the Boston University School of Public Health and an undergraduate degree from Boston College. She completed the Wheelock Media Literacy Institute in 2006, and the Catalyst Institute –sponsored by the New Mexico Media Literacy Project – in 2008.
Susan McGee, M.Ed.
Susan (Susie) McGee has been in education for over twenty-five years. She has a Masters in Education and is currently Head of Middle School at The Rivers School in Weston, MA. Susie has spoken to parent and faculty groups at various independent schools in the Boston area and has done extensive curriculum development in both the fields of middle school education and media literacy. Susie is also a member of the Deak Group through which she offers consulting services to schools focusing on media literacy as well as middle school education.
